Biography
Dance Doyle is an Oakland-based artist who creates large-scale narrative tapestries woven on floor looms. Born and bred in Oakland during the ’80s and ’90s, they experienced a sense of grit that has always informed their work. Completely self-taught, Dance draws a tiny outline of the work, pins it to the castle of their loom, and eyes it from there. Dance's work has been shown nationally and internationally. They've participated in an AIR at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY, the Museum of Arts and Design in NYC, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in NE, Haystack Mountain School in Maine, the Institute of Contemporary Art in San Francisco, and lastly, summer of 2026, Dance will be an AIR at the McColl Center in NC.
Dance completed three Fellowships: MacDowell Colony, NH, Headlands Center for the Arts in CA, and Chulitna Lodge in Alaska in 2025/2026. Dance teaches at at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
